Capacitors are used in many applications such as smoothing out electrical flow and temporarily holding small quantities of charge³.However, they are not suitable for lighting or heating at home. Capacitors are not capable of storing enough charge like batteries³. Also, capacitors are fairly complex components and quite a bit of consideration goes into applying them such that they last a long time¹.The biggest killer of electrolytic capacitors is heat – whether due to ambient temperature, nearby heat sources such as hot parts and heatsinks, or self-heating due to the ripple current¹. Therefore, it is not recommended to use capacitors for lighting or heating at home.
